Stabbing victim waits inside police station with knife in back to complete legalities
Officials have come under fire for their lack of humanity
Picture of a man stabbed and bleeding, waiting in a police station till completion of the legal formalities, has outraged Indian social media.
This happened in Jabalpur district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, where a man reached the Garha police station in an injured state. With a knife in his back, the man had lost a lot of blood.
Later, the victim, who was identified as Sonu, appeared to be standing in a shirt that was soaked with blood.
Humanity or legal formality, what comes first?
This was the question asked by many social media users while sharing the news.
According to Indian media reports, the police were busy in completing the legal formalities, instead of taking him to the hospital. The man stood there with a knife in his back while he was answering their questions.
Victim’s relative claim that Sonu was stabbed by the main accused, Golu, and his accomplices in the intervening night of October 16 and October 17 when the former went out of his home for a walk.
The family members claimed that Golu attacked Sonu as both of them were involved in a heated argument on October 15.
The latter was furious about Golu and his friends consuming alcohol near his residence. This had led to the eruption of the argument between them and Golu stabbed him with his knife.
Reportedly, family members and neighbours of the complainant heard the commotion and rushed to his rescue, prompting the accused and his accomplices to flee from the spot.
A case has been registered in this regard at the Garha police station, and an investigation is underway. Sonu was later taken to the hospital. Police have come under fire after pictures of the man waiting with a knife in his back went viral on social media.
