MANIPAL: Students from Moto Manipal, the official electric superbike team of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), have come first in the National Online E-Bike Design Competition, Season-2, organised by the Fraternity of Mechanical and Automotive Engineers (FMAE).

Aryan Singh, team member and second-year engineering student, said that in the final presentation held on March 28, MotoManipal secured first place.

The team had participated in the National Online E-Bike Design Competition, Season-1, and had emerged champions last year too.

We are looking forward to participating in the upcoming competition, MotoStudent Electric India, which will be held at Kari Motor Speedway later this year,” he said.

The team from Manipal Institute of Technology has been working for the competition for the past five months.

For this challenge, they were made to design an electric bike powered by 2 kW brushless DC motor, using various CAD and CAE softwares for modelling and analysis.

Complete research and development was done by the team, including complete reports on different components used in the bike, and the calculation behind it.

On the challenges, Aryan said since there was no physical contact with each another, communication was key.

The team made it a point to interact every day for a few hours, to ensure that we were making sufficient progress, and to keep every team member on the same page throughout the lockdown period.

Meanwhile, the team will commence manufacturing of a superbike, the moment campus life resumes to normalcy.

This bike is being designed to participate in the Moto Student International Competition to be held in Spain in 2022.

“Online work on this project has commenced. The manufacturing of our second bike—MM02—is delayed due to the pandemic. However, everything is ready, and all preparations have been made for manufacturing it. that will begin as soon as the college permits use of the workshop. The college has been supportive in our endeavour,” he added.
