Karnataka: New norms laid down for those attending weddings

Print MANGALURU: Guests attending weddings must carry a hard copy of the invitation, an ID proof and a soft copy of the permission letter obtained from the local body during the weekend curfew. For the time being, it is important to follow this rule till May 4, said deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra, here on Wednesday.
The state government on Tuesday stated that marriages are permitted but must be carried out by strictly adhering to Covid-appropriate behaviour (CAB) with a maximum of 50 people.
The deputy commissioner asked those organising wedding parties to submit a guest list of not more than 50 people, including priests (archaks), photographers and videographers to the urban local bodies or PDOs in gram panchayat limits. A copy of the permission letter should be shared with all the guests.
The guests can produce a copy of the letter on WhatsApp, but will have to keep an ID proof and hard copy of the invitation with them when travelling. Also, only the person who has got the permission to attend the wedding can travel, he said.
Mass wedding cancelled at Dharmasthala
Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala has cancelled the mass wedding programme scheduled on April 29 in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, and based on the directions of the state government. However, the members of the Dharmasthala Rural Development Project will ensure that dhotis, saris, mangalasutras and other items given to the couples on behalf of the temple, reaches them.
Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade and his wife Hemavathi Heggade have requested couples to get married at their respective hometowns in a simple manner, or before the Kuladevatas, by following CAB. The couples have been requested to register at the respective taluk sub-registrar office, and submit a copy of the same to the temple office.
