Mulki :  Two boys met a watery grave in two  separate incidents reported from the Suzlon Rehabilitation Colony in Padubidri and in Mulki on November 13, Saturday. Amrith (12), a seventh standard student of Padubidri Board School and son of Krishna Poojari, a resident of the Suzlon rehabilitation colony who had been to swim in a lake nearby along with two of his friends was reported drowned. It is suspected that the boy slipped and fell in order to reach out to his slippers which went floating in the water.

Two of his friends who were with him had fled on realizing that Amrith was drowning. Though the  fire service personnel were intimated, they arrived too late on the grounds that they had no staff who could swim and undertake rescue operations Finally, locals themselves stepped into the water and retrieved the body of the boy.

Locals meanwhile blamed the Suzlon company for the tragedy as according to them the company digging a deep trench unscientifically in the lake had led to the drowning of the boy. In another case reported from Mulki, Muttu (11), a fifth standard student of Karnad CSI school, drowned in the Shambhavi river when he was swimming along with his friends.

Though a localite on seeing the boy drown plunged into the water to rescue him, he could not do much to save the boy’s life. The boy was immediately rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Mulki police have registered a case.
