Bengaluru: The registrar (evaluation) of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy, is facing allegations of corruption and misuse of power. One of the major accusations against him is that he facilitated his son’s admission to a medical college without clearing the mandatory entrance examination. Despite multiple cases being filed against him, no action has been taken so far, allegedly due to his influential position.

Dr. Reddy, who has been associated with RGUHS since 2000, currently holds various positions apart from his role as registrar. However, it is claimed that he receives salaries and benefits from these additional posts, which is against the service rules. The Karnataka Lokayukta has registered a case, but no investigation has been initiated yet. In light of this, social and student activist Lokesh Ram has filed a fresh complaint against Dr. Reddy, urging the Karnataka state chief secretary to launch an immediate investigation.

The allegations against Dr. Reddy also include financial irregularities. The government audit department’s probe reportedly revealed misuse of funds amounting to several crores. The alleged financial violations include illegal fixed deposit renewal, illegal monetization, illegal payments to staff, expenditures without proper documentation, and unauthorized fee collections.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Dr. Reddy misused his administrative power and influence to secure an illegal admission for his son, Tarun Reddy, into a medical college without clearing the required entrance test. In addition to this, Dr. Reddy is accused of approving the admission of 21 other candidates through improper means.

Complaints regarding these irregularities were also lodged with the National Medical Commission (NMC). Although the NMC acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and called for a thorough investigation, no action has been taken thus far. It is hoped that the current government, led by the Congress party, will address these concerns and ensure a fair inquiry into the matter, as voiced by Lokesh Ram of the Karnataka State Association of the Management of Nursing and Allied Health Science Institutions.
