Pak rock band almost stranded after hotel ditches organisers

Print The organisers of Amaze, the much hyped concert by Pakistani rock band Strings that was held at Palace Grounds on Saturday, managed to avert a last-minute embarrassment when the band members arrived in the city. The band, which was in town for three days, was almost stranded with no place to stay following a disagreement between the event’s hospitality partner and organisers.
“The troupe was less than half an hour away from the hotel when we found an email from the hotel saying that they were pulling out of the deal. It would have been a major embarrassment had we not checked our mail at the right time,” said one of the organisers of the event.
The hospitality partner for the concert, organised by the students of Indian Institute of Planning Management, was The Park Plaza at Marathahalli. There was large scale publicity for the event through the radio, hoardings and ticket promotions and the hotel featured extensively in the publicity materials. “We did have a couple of issues with the number of hoardings that were promised to them. But their pulling out from the deal on the day of the band’s arrival left us in the lurch. We even offered to pay them for the stay, but they refused to accommodate the band members,” said another student of the college.
Finally they managed to accommodate the troupe at The Sheraton. “We managed to keep the mess from coming to the band’s attention. We told them that there was a change of plan and they would be put up in another hotel,” said the organisers.
When BM contacted The Park Plaza, the duty manager Dev confirmed that the hotel pulled out of the event. “I do not know the reasons why we pulled out of the deal,” he said.
