Big rush at typing centres for ID card registration

Print Typing centres approved by the EIDA could not register residents over the past few days as the system had been jammed due to the large number of residents trying to register before the deadline.
A staff at the Al-Alam typing centre said, “We have the permit to register people for the ID cards, but we can’t right now. We have a lot of passports to register. Moreover, entering data into the system is difficult somehow these days as it is very slow.”
A staff at the House of Translation typing centre official said, “It’s better to apply for the ID next week, because it will take four working days to send an SMS, and the system is a bit slow.”
However, Khadeejah Shaheen, Al Rashediah Centre Director, Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), has said that though there was a problem earlier, now the system is back to normal. “It is important to note that registering residents are required to go to typing centres first,” she said. “They are not allowed to apply at EIDA centres. Typing centres are approved to prevent rush at our centres,” she added.
Children do not need to visit any EIDA centres, according to Dr Ali Khouri, Director-General of the EIDA.
“The photographs has to have a light blue background, while registering at any typing centre,” said the staff from the House of Translation.
Speaking of major projects Dr Al Khouri said that one of the main projects is linking with the Ministry of Health, so that new born babies will automatically be registered at the identity authority.
EIDA’s new strategic plan 2010-2013, has enabled the registration of nearly one million and a half citizens and residents during the year 2010, and led to higher rates of registration, from 3000 to about 10,000 a day
