Udupi Utsav to showcase culture, tradition
After a gap of four years, Udupi is all set to open its arms to the magnificent gala - ’Udupi Utsav’.
The fest is a blend of cultural amusements and artistic ventures specially arranged to enthrall Udupians. The month long fest was informally inaugurated on Friday. The fest is arranged in such a way that all sorts of entertainment will be offered to the public. The fest will end on January 15.
The major attraction of Utsav is the exhibition and cultural programmes. The expo represents the rich cultural ethnicity of land by giving impetus to variety of handicrafts. The expo consists of 150 stalls, entirely focused on ethnic and traditional artifacts of the area. Most of the stalls are filled with consumer items. Handlooms, handicrafts, Jaipur bangles, fancy stationeries, jute bags, food items, terracotta products and others are displayed in the exhibition.
The stalls are set up by various departments and small entrepreneurs. The Utsava has as many as 25 amusement items, of which Torra Torra and Jungli Jacko will provide entertainment to the visitors. Parachute towers, striking cars, rangers, giant wheel, Columbus, fizbee, water amusements like rowing boat and inflatable water are all part of the show. The Consumer Fair has also been set up in association with National Consumer Fair, Bangalore.
Beach Utsav
Beach Utsav will mesmerise the spectators with diverse contests that will be held to mark the event. Competitions like boat pulling, beach volley ball and tug of war add to the list of entertainment that will behold the visitors attention for more than a month. Massive sand sculpture will be displayed at the end of December month.
Cultural programmes with colourful performances will mark the carnival along with mouth watering dishes adding extra fervour to the Utsav.
Yakshagana, representing the cultural nomenclatures of coastal belt will don the array of cultural arts that is offered to the visitors. ‘Jatayu Moksha-Yakshagana ballet’ captivated the audience in the inaugural show of the cultural fest. Neenada-Sugama Sangeetha, mandolin performance, semi classical dance, nada vaibhava, kalari payattu, children’s play, Kamsa Digvijaya and Kamsavadhe (yakshagana), Nidranagari (children’s play), Tulu drama are some of the programmes that would provide cultural treat to the audience.
Internationally acclaimed Hindustani classical musicians Rajan and Sajan Mishra brothers are expected to surge the ambiance through their musical concert.
It is all excitement filled with joy and gala time for the public for the next 35 days.
