Film and theatre director, producer and actor, Satish Kaushik recently signed an MoU with Kapil Agarwal, Managing Director of AMR Infrastructures Ltd., for setting up Delhi Film Council (DFC). Having an international tie-up with New York Film Academy and Rain Post Production Studio (U.K.), The Delhi Film Council shall be housed at The Great Adventure Mall, opening soon in Tech Zone, Greater Noida. Kaushik, along with his partner Manoj Mittal, is soon going to establish DFC to promote Delhi as a movie producing centre and create a film hub in Delhi, NCR and North India.

Satish Kaushik, who is mostly known for his role as a ‘Calender’ in Mr. India, talks about his personal life and ‘Delhi Film Council’.

Earlier a Fashion Council, now a Film Council in Delhi. You’re on a development run to make this capital a tinsel town and turn it into a film hub. What say?

(laughs). Oh yes. It is need of the hour. With so many young talents and aspiring film-makers in the city, it has become necessary to set up a body which will facilitate the film-makers, like the way we have a Fashion Council here to facilitate things for designers and promote Indian Fashion. I am delighted that with support from AMR Infrastructures it is finally seeing the light of the day.

Delhi has become a favorite place for the film-makers. Tell us about the various facilities which DFC will provide.

It will be a boon for the film-makers who are coming to Delhi to shoot their films. It will fulfill their requirements ranging from permissions, locations, studios, shooting staff, spot boys, vanity vans, casting etc. This organization will organize various film festivals and seminars to promote the films in and around Delhi. DFC also intends to set up a film fund to support the film-makers.

How do you think its tie-up with New York Film Academy will prove beneficial?

Bringing NYFA to India is a very major step by DFC-AMR. It will, obviously, boost the Indian Film Industry. With its tie-up with DFC, new technology will come to India. Their teachers will be providing film education facilities in Delhi.

Out of the three roles to play in reel life, which one do you prefer the most?

Well, you’ve seen me as an actor in more movies than as a director. I love to do acting. Being a director, there are lots of tensions and worries. I feel so burdened whenever I am directing a movie. That is why I prefer acting much more than a producer or director. But, that doesn’t mean I’ll stop directing the movies (smiles).

It was 2 years back when your last direction came. Give a word about your upcoming movie.

I am presently working on the script of ‘Mayanagri’. It’s a heart-rending story of two guys who has to choose male prostitution as their profession. The shooting is about to start in few months.
