34 trucks of onions arrive from Pakistan

Print About 34 trucks loaded with onions yesterday reached India as imports from Pakistan continued for the third successive day to check onion prices in the country, officials said.
A total of 98 truckloads had arrived here through the Attari-Wagah border Tuesday and Wednesday.
With onion prices touching Rs100 a kg in some parts of the country earlier in the week, Indian traders are buying the vegetable from Pakistan at Rs.300-350 a quintal.
"Today (Thursday) 34 trucks reached Amritsar. We have sent them to traders in Punjab and Delhi. We are expecting 40-50 trucks tomorrow (Friday)," importer Rajdeep Uppal, vice-president of the Amritsar Exports and Imports Chamber said. He added: "We are getting onions at Rs.300-350 a quintal. We are hopeful Pakistan will comfortably export onions for another 9-10 days. Besides, we have observed that prices have started coming down in our markets."
