Kalam favours FDI in retail sector
The former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, said here on Sunday that aggressive marketing and competitiveness were the only factors that separated the developed and developing world. He indicated that he was in favour of allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector.
“It looks to me that as long as we can build the capacity of aggressiveness in marketing and competitiveness, FDI is not a dangerous thing,” he said at a function.
Mr. Kalam noted that in the globalised world, there was need to “collaborate” as far as the retail sector was concerned.
“What is the difference between the developed and the developing world? … The developed world wants to sell its goods to all the developed and the developing countries. The developing countries, like us, as well as the developed countries both want to market our products.”
He said the nuclear plant at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu “is one of the safest plants.” There were four safety barriers that were interlocked.
