Three kidnap former business partner

Three Asians with the help of other fugitives allegedly kidnapped and confined a former business partner for five days and demanded Dh400,000 as ransom from his wife who’s living in India, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

SKS, Afghani, 30, and AJK, 28, Pakistani, NAS, 38, Pakistani, took ATB to a store in the industrial area where they confined him for five days.

HS, Indian, reported to police that some people had confined his relative ATB.

“I received a phone call from ATB’s wife who stays in India saying that her husband had been kidnapped and confined in Al Aweer area in Dubai and his kidnappers were asking for Dh400, 000 ransom,” he testified.

Second Lieutenant Khalid Khalifa testified that police investigated the information and located the place; it raided the place and arrested the accused.

The victim told the police that he had been confined for five days.

He told police that he came to Dubai as investor and set up a general trading company.

The company was closed a year ago for financial reasons. He met the accused NAS and worked with him in scrap trade. He finished his business with him but continued meeting him from time to time to discuss business-related issued.

“When he returned from 2-month vacation, I received a call from him on Mary 6 asking me to meet him to discuss a business plan. I went to Al Satwa on May 15 where two men picked me in their car and took me to a garage in Al Aweer.

"Later NAS came and told me that I have to pay him Dh411,000, claiming that I stole the amount while we had a scrape trade business. He said he would confine me until I pay him the amount; the other people were guarding the place. I was allowed only to talk to my relatives back home via the internet to arrange the amount. I grabbed the opportunity and told them about my being confined,” he testified.

His wife dialed his mobile number and a Pakistani answered the call and repeated demand of Dh400,000 to release him; it was his last day set by kidnappers before they kill him if the money was not paid, according to the records.

The court will reconvene on September 25.
