Minister directs officials to speed up issuance of ration cards, MGNREGS

 District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi regretted that the Ashraya Housing scheme which was approved in 2008-09 has not been implemented effectively in Moodbidri zone.

Speaking at a Taluk-level review meeting to analyse the development in Mulki and Moodbidri area, Ravi stressed that the people have to be given the allotted houses by the end of December.

"As many as 5,916 people in Moodbidri constituency area do not have houses and have not been allotted sites. Only 23 hectares of land is available as the other land which has been identified comes under deemed forest," informed Tasildhar Basavaraj Patil. The District-in-Charge Minister assured to discuss the matter with various departments and take necessary action.

Flaying officials for the delay in distribution of ration cards, Ravi said that people are suffering and their problems have to solved at the earliest. Less than 200 people of the 5,715 applicants have received their ration card. The cards should be printed by September end and distributed by mid October, he said.

The Panchayat Raj Engineering Department Officer informed that 78 kilometers of road has been damaged due to the rains. The retaining wall of Nandini river in Halayangadi has also been damaged, he said. The two multi-village water supply schemes upcoming in the taluk will be completed by December, he assured.

Shortage of students

BEO Rajalakshmi pointed out that two schools may have to be closed in Moodbidri due to shortage of students. The government school in Kandadale has three students and the school may have to be merged, she said and informed that another school which has seven students may have the same fate.

"It seems that people have lost faith in Government schools. I am a product of a government school. There is a need to understand why people do not opt government schools in spite of several facilities being granted to them," said Ravi.
Ravi also said that there should be no delay in granting free land and title deeds to the 50 Koraga families.

He regretted that that MGNREGS implemention is poor in Moodbidri and said that steps should be taken for effective implementation.

Around 25,000 litres of milk is produced in Moodbidri constituency and 2.18 lakh litres in DK district every day, informed KMF Officer.

The District-In-Charge Minister advised on formation of milk cooperative societies in association with Self Help Groups in every village to increase the produce.
The Agriculture Department Officer informed that there has been crop loss in 119 hectares of land in Mulky and Surathkal area due to excess rain.

The Labour department officer said that four child labourers have been rehabilitated in Prajna Counseling centre. Children have undergone medical examination and once the reports arrive, legal action will be taken against their employers, he said.
