Scotland Yard announces reward for info on Indian-origin garage owner NRI’s killer

LONDON: Scotland Yard today announced a reward of 20,000 pounds for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the killer of an Indian-origin garage owner, who was stabbed to death in Ilford a year ago.
Harjinder Singh Bhurji, 32, was killed on September 13 and a post-mortem examination gave cause of his death as a stab wound to the heart.
A woman friend of Bhurji was found at the scene uninjured but suffering from shock.
The suspect is described as black, about 6ft 2ins, of slim build and wearing a grey "beanie" hat, grey hoodie and dark-coloured bandana. He spoke with a London accent, the police said.
Detective inspector Andy Yeats said: "The motive for this brutal murder was the robbery of Mr Bhurji’s car. A year has now passed and we still need help in bringing his killer/s to justice."
He added: "We hope the offer of this large reward will encourage people to come forward and approach us with any information in confidence."
Bhurji and his woman friend were sitting talking in Bhurji’s car when the suspect suddenly appeared, opened the passenger door and dragged the woman from the vehicle.
The suspect then went to the driver’s door and demanded the keys to the car, the police said, adding Bhurji tried to hide the keys under his seat but the suspect threatened to harm his friend if he did not hand them over.
However, before he had time to retrieve them, he was stabbed.
Despite injuries, Bhurji managed to retrieve the keys and hand them to the suspect who then drove off, the police said, and added the car was later found abandoned in Chingford.
