The Zonal Agricultural Research Station Brahmavar in association with Krishsi Vigyan Kendra Brahmavar and Mangalore, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Watershed Department, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries and Forestry, Udupi is organising two days “Krishi Mela” on October 8 and 9 at the Research Station premises.

Speaking to media persons, Zonal Agricultural Research Station Brahmavar Associate Director M Hanumantappa said the main objective of this Mela is the transfer of latest agricultural technologies through demonstrations, discussions and field visits.
Besides seminars and interactions will be held with scientists for farmers on the occasion.
 The Minister for Port, Muzrahi and Inland Water Transport Kota Srinivas Poojary will inaugurate the programme. University of Agricultural Sciences Vice Chancellor Dr K Narayana Gowda will preside, he added.

MLA Raghupathy Bhat will inaugurate the expo. The Krishi Vighyan Kendra administrative building will be inaugurated by Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde. Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary will inaugurate the model demo unit on duck cum fish culture in the campus, he added.

10,000 farmers

Around 10,000 farmers and public are expected to take part in the expo.
Nearly 100 stalls will be set up in the Mela. As many as three seminars are organised on the occasion.

The seminars will be held on ’cashew cultivation and mixed cropping system in horticulture of the coastal zone,’ ’profitable dairy farming and subsidiary enterprises,’ and ’mechanization in paddy and marketing opportunities.’

 The seminars will be attended by department heads of Agriculture department and other allied departments, Directors of Research and Extension wing of University of Agriculture Science, Bangalore and scientists from ICAR research institutes.

The Mela will also comprises of attractive agricultural exhibition which includes high rice yielding varieties  and seed production, cashew grafting and soil and water management in cashew gardens, dairy, poultry, goat, rabbit, duck and fisheries demo units and demonstration on value added food products.
