The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) accepted delivery of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) “m.v. SCI Yamuna” on 27th November, 2012.

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) accepted delivery of a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) “m.v. SCI Yamuna” on 27th November, 2012.

The vessel is the last of the two new building Platform Supply Vessels ordered by SCI with Cochin Shipyard Limited. The first vessel viz. “SCI Nalanda” was delivered on 14th August, 2012. Orders for these vessels were placed in 09thJuly, 2009. With delivery of this vessel, SCI would further establish itself as a formidable player in the Indian offshore services sector.

The vessel has a gross tonnage of 2,633 tonnes and deadweight of 3094.82 tonnes. The vessel is built with clean design & environment friendly Rolls-Royce UT-Design (UT 755 CD). This vessel has diesel electrical propulsion which consume less fuel than conventional direct drive system & therefore produces less emissions. The vessel has been dual classed with DNV and IRS, equipped with Dynamic Positioning (DP-II) system, Reverse Osmosis Plant, Firefighting (FIFI-1) equipment and ERRV (Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel) and partial UKOOA Class ‘C’ compliance.  It has been built to comply with the latest and most stringent international regulations. This vessel will be able to offer the essential support and services for growth of the Indian Offshore industry.

In the offshore sector, SCI presently has a fleet of 16 vessels of which 9 vessels were acquired during the eighties. These vessels have been dedicatedly serving the oil exploration and production sector in India for past more than 25 years. As a National carrier, SCI has been aiming to increase its presence in India’s offshore sector. The services of these vessels would be crucial to the E&P operators in the Indian Offshore sector. Apart from serving the nation’s interest, the vessel would also strengthen SCI’s fleet base, as well as help SCI to establish itself as major E&P logistic service provider.

With the addition of this vessel, SCI’s fleet strength stands at 81 vessels of 5.855 million dwt. Acquisition of this vessel is in line with SCI’s strategy of maintaining a modern and young fleet of vessels. The Company has 18 vessels on order at present out of which 3 vessels are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2012.
