 The High Court on Wednesday directed the City police to submit the list of all the hookah bars to which it has granted licence.

The petitioners, Astitva Legal Trust and a City-based advocate Vivekananda, have moved the High Court stating that the police had violated the Juvenile Justice Act by arresting some youngsters from hookah bars. The Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao and Justice Abdul Nazeer directed the City police to furnish the list of hookah bars.

Missing minors

The court also directed the City Police Commissioner to be present before the court in connection with increasing cases of missing minor boys and girls in the City.

Hearing a habeas corpus petition of a missing child, the Division Bench comprising Justice K L Manjunath and Justice H S Kempanna directed that the City Police Commissioner should appear before the court to explain the slow paced investigation into such matters. The Bench directed that the Commissioner should explain the action taken by the police to trace them.

Basaveshwara bust

The Court ordered notice to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and others in connection with a petition challenging illegal installation of a bust of Basaveshwara, the twelfth century social reformer, at a park in Yelahanka new town.

The petitioners Jagadish G M and others had moved the court stating that a statue has been installed at a park at Sector A, which is in violation of Section 58 (20) of the KMC Act, which says that there should not be any construction within the park. The petitioners pointed out that as per the recent Supreme Court direction, statues cannot be installed in public places.

The petitioners also submitted that as per the Town and Country Planning Act and Parks and Open Spaces Act, no statues can be installed in public places and the park is also a public place.

The Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao and Justice Abdul Nazeer ordered notice to BBMP and others.
