It was a conspiracy to disturb peace in the coastal district: Poojary

Condemning the attack on a prayer hall in Kattingeri in Moodubelle, former union  minister Janardhan Poojary said that all the accused should be booked under the Goonda Act, to ensure that such incidents does not recur in the district.

Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, he said the attack was a conspiracy to create disharmony and chaos.

He said it is the belief that makes an individual to respect a certain religion. However, it does not mean that they are converted. It is their faith and no one has the right to question the faith and belief of people, he added.

He said “I met the aged mother of Roshan Lobo, pastor of Word of Victory Ministry who was injured in the attack. I visited the prayer hall. People from all religions visit the prayer hall to get peace and solace. Besides, I have spoken to many devotees.

They did not agree with the allegations that they are being converted to Christianity. Instead, they had the belief that by praying in the Word of Victory they will be cured of diseases and other problems will be solved.”

He said the Supreme Court should come out with stringent laws to curb such activities. Besides, media should also play a key role in creating awareness against fundamentalist tendencies, he added.

The Congress leader lauded workers for their undying hard work in the ensuring party’s victory in the recently concluded ULBs polls. However, he cautioned Congressmen should be aware that success is not permanent and the humanitarian service and service-oriented programmes should be carried out.

The people have desired a change. They are tired of corrupt BJP government. BJP ministers and leaders have exceeded limits in their greed for power.

He said an oath taking ceremony of Congress workers and leaders in this region will be held at Nehru Maidan on March 18. The Congressmen should take an oath in the name of transparency and truthfulness.

He said that the BJP had suffered a set back in constituencies represented by the chief minister and other top leaders in the state.  Voters are kings and they are intelligent enough to take a decision, he said.
