Print MANGALORE: With the Congress winning majority in all the urban local bodies except at Sullia in DakshinaKannada, the party district leadership is planning to offer seats to all the sitting MLAs in their respective constituencies.
Mangalore MLA U T Khader, Bantwal MLA B Ramanatha Rai and Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachandra Jain are likely to recontest from constituencies in the upcoming assembly elections.
Veteran Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary, who is the election in-charge for the party in the district, told reporters that they will recommend the high command to offer tickets to sitting MLAs whose dedicated work has ensured this win for the Congress in the polls.
The party will think of a new candidate in Belthangady constituency as sitting Congress MLA Vasantha Bangera has expressed his inclination not to contest, he said, adding that they are confident of bagging all the eight constituencies in Dakshina Kannada.
"We will bag Mangalore City South and Mangalore City North constituencies where at present BJP leaders N Yogish Bhat and Krishna J Palemar are MLAs. We are confident of winning the city constituencies as Congress has outperformed BJP by bagging more wards in the city corporation elections. Out of 38 wards in Mangalore City South, the Congress has bagged 28 and in Mangalore City North, we have secured 12 out of 22 wards," Poojary said.
Though Poojary praised the efforts of the party leadership and workers at root-level, he admitted that the negative votes generated against the BJP favoured the Congress to some extent.
