A list of non-resident voters to be prepared; action against people flouting rules

A list of people, who have applied for new voters’ cards but are not staying at the address provided by them, will be prepared and their necessary documents will be checked when they come to cast their vote, said Deputy Commissioner, D S Vishwanath.

He was addressing a press conference on Saturday in the City. “A list of people who have applied for voter’s identity cards from a constituency, even if they do not reside there.A copy of the list will be given to the polling booth agents. The agents will verify the name of the voters with this list and their name is found in the other list too, action will be taken against such persons,” he said.

“So far, names of 2,400 such voters have been removed from the voters’ list. If their name is found in both the lists, the voters’ should immediately cancel their name from one list. Else, action will be taken against them too,” he warned.

Voter’s slip

No party is give the authority of issuing voter’s slip near the poll booths. Instead, polling staff will visit the voters’ house and give the slip, two days prior to the election, he said.
Members of any party are not allowed to put up stalls within 200 metres of the polling booth. They are not even allowed to give anything to voters, except for drinking water, he clarified.

In the district, 99.41 per cent people have obtained epic cards. We will try to make it 100 per cent during elections, he said.

25 booths in Malur. Kolar and Srinivaspur have been identified as sensitive booths, he added. DC also said that voters have the right to restrain from voting if they do not want to. The polling officers will be instructed not to force such voters to cast their vote.

69,000 applications

Till January 16, in the district there were 10,24,211 voters. Till April 7, the last date to apply for new voter’s cards 69,000 people have submitted applications, said DC D S Vishwanath. All the applications are being recorded and within two days, their address will be verified. Sectoral officers will complete this task, he said.

7,300 staff

Nearly 7,300 staff will be deployed for work for election duty. There will be 1,825 presiding officers, 1,825 first polling officers and 3,650 polling officers. A training for the polling officers has been organised on April 22 at the government pre-university colleges at each constituencies. In addition to the deployed staff, 1,600 each police and para army staff will be appointed.

101 sector officers

On the day of the election, including in charge officers, 101 sector officers will operate. In Srinivaspur there will be 20 sector officers, in Mulbagal, 15; Kolar Gold Fields, 14; Bangarpet, 14; Kolar, 19 and Malur, 19 sector officers will operate.
Apart from these officers, 1,400 micro observers will be appointed. They will be trained by returning officers.

39 complaints

So far, 39 complaints of poll code violation have been received. Through online 8 complaints, 21 in control room and 10 written complaints have been received. Cases have been registered in six indents. Excise department officers have conducted 341 raids and 63 cases have been filed by them.
