Kodagu Ekikarana Ranga office-bearers said that the BJP elected representatives failed to reclaim encroached 374.60 acre land belonging to the temples in the district. Why BJP leaders who speak of being the protectors of Hindus failed to protect the land belonging to temples.

Speaking to presspersons, Ranga member M K Appachu said that 18 acre land belonging to Sri Omkareshwara temple ar Hakathur village has been encroached by 19 persons. About 172.37 acre land belonging to Sri Iguthappa temple in Kunjila and 113.11 acre land belonging to sacred groves, 123.27 acre land belonging to Sri Mahalingeshwara temple, 105.45 acre sacred grove at Paloor have also been encroached. Out of 194.90 acre sacred groves belonging to Sri Bhagandeshwara temple at Tavoor, Thannimani and Bhagamandala villages, 156.04 acre land has been encroached by 71 persons.

Releasing the documents to prove the allegations, he said that a person had voluntarily evicted four acre land belonging to Rameshwara temple at Irpu, which he had encroached. However, the government has failed to reclaim the encroached temple lands.

Ranga member Thammu Poovaiah said that the government had come forward to reclaim the encroached land belonging to temples coming under Muzrai department in 2008. A task force was also constituted for reclaiming of the encroached land.

He accused that BJP leaders and Talacauvery temple priest T S Narayana Achar has encroached 6.55 acre sacred grove land  belonging to Bhagandeshwara temple on survey number 73/1. Even the district administration’s survey report had proved that Achar had encroached the land. He challenged Talacauvery Bhagandeshwara temple managing committee president Manu Muthappa to initiate action against the priest.

“We had protested against the move of the district administration to hand over 50 cents land to Kaveri Theerthodbhava Annasantharpana Trust to construct rest room and dining hall near Bhagandeshwara temple.” He said that the Ranga will submit a memorandum to DC Dr N V Prasad urging him to reclaim the encroached land belonging to the temples.
