Thief in police net after 3-hour car chase

Print A Tanzanian man who was on the run after stealing a car from an Asian was arrested by the police after a three-hour chase.
During the chase, the suspect dodged the patrols, blocked traffic near the Cargo Village intersection on Airport Road and crashed into one of the patrol vehicles, but the cops managed to arrest him around 1.15pm on Saturday.
An Asian informed the police at 9.45pm on Friday that somebody had stolen his Honda car from the Emirates Cooperative parking at Al Twar 3 in Al Nahda area and sped in the direction of Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
He said while he was changing the car tyre in the parking lot, an African came and offered him help. After changing the tyre, he was stunned to see the suspect getting behind the wheel and speeding away.
A police patrol attempted to chase the suspect, but the latter refused to pull over and drove dangerously at a high speed and disappeared.
The police issued circulars and intensified patrols to prevent the suspect from fleeing the area.
The patrols started scanning the internal and external roads in the area and finally spotted the car on Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road just before Al Warqa intersection.
When a military police patrol attempted to stop the suspect, the latter did not give in and drove the car recklessly, endangering the lives of other road users. Later, three civilian police vehicles and a military patrol vehicle coordinated to restrain the suspect with the military one taking care of the traffic in front to prevent any accident, the civilian police car preventing the suspect from deviating to the right and a third vehicle coming in from behind to prevent him from reversing, blocking the suspect from all sides.
The suspect then got off the car and started running but the police managed to arrest him. He was then taken to the police station where his fingerprints were taken.
