Udupi: Artistes give new look to hotel

Udupi based artist Vasanth Rao and his teammates have given a new look to Hotel Tamboolam Girija in Udupi town by giving it a traditional rustic look with their innovative artistic creativity.
Speaking to media persons, Vasanth Rao said art and society should be connected and art needs permanent stature. In gallery, the art is displayed for short time and it is apt to be temporary. In contrast, if the art is utilised for the interior designing in houses, hotels and offices, it remains there permanently, he added.
He said he along with six artists have worked continuously for forty-five days to reincarnate the pastoral look within the hotel premises. The aesthetic sense is imprinted with the concept of folk art linked with rural and cultural art. Besides, it is a blend of various art styles like “Madhubhani”, “Mural”, “Warli”, “Mandan”, “Rock Paintings” and collage. Besides, the “Bhitthi Chitra” concept of North Karnataka is also extensively used in the art. The lights that are lit in the dark ambiance of the hotel are enveloped in the ancient patterned lantern. The entrance is decked with the sculpture using the raw materials of coconut tree.
Besides, a huge bullock-cart welcomes when one enters the hotel. The walls of the hotel are all adorned with varieties of scribbling and the entrance is designed with visual symbols comprising “Rangoli” art form.
