Speaking over cell phones while driving vehicles is a fashion nowadays, but is also a dangerous habit, which should be given up, advised Circle Inspector C J Rangaswamy.

He was speaking at a youth awareness programme organised by the Police Department on Thursday at the Government Pre-university College as part of the Road Safety Week.

“Mobile phones have become a substitute for playthings. Their reach extends from studies till getting information about the criminal world,” he explained and warned people to beware while using mobile phones.

Presiding over the programme, M T Kamble, the principal in-charge of the College, said students should improve morally, including developing traits like honesty and discipline, while in schools and colleges. “This is a way to be a good citizen,” he explained, quoting examples.

Professors Krishnamurthy, Siddharthaswamy, Rajashekhar and Srinivas, Police Department staff A Nagaraj, Saraswatamma, Srinath and Rekha were present.
The Department gave prizes to winners of an essay-writing competition on the topic “This is how police should be” at the programme.Arshiya Khan, who was the compere, welcomed the gathering. Shalini proposed the vote of thanks.
