` 9.5 cr will be spent on Ullal TMC, ` 20 cr on City, says Khader

Mangalore City and Ullal TMC will be made as models, with regard to availability of health care facilities, said Minister of Health and Family Welfare U T Khader.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, he said, from the fund allotted by Central government, Rs 9.5 crore will be spent on Ullal TMC and Rs 20 crore on Mangalore City to upgrade health facilities and give people super specialty treatment.

There are plans to establish ’Poly Clinics’ for every 60,000 population in the two regions. These clinics will have a paediatric, gynecologist, orthopedic and physician and also a good lab testing facility. All polyclinics will be computerised, so that patients can get their reports online. A team from National Health Mission has arrived the district to survey Ullal and Mangalore City, he said.

Staff in the polyclinics will be hired on contract basis. Specialty doctors will be made available on time slot basis and will be paid accordingly. These clinics will come up under the aegis of the government or PPP model, he said.

At present, mapping is being conducted in Mangalore city and in case of space availability in Urban Health Clinics, they will be upgraded to poly clinics. However, if there is a lack of space, new polyclinics will be set up in areas where people are socially and economically backward, he said.

The polyclinics intend to work as per the hub and spoke model. With people approaching polyclinics, the pressure on the district hospital will be decreased.

Health facilities in Bangalore, Mysore, Bagalkot will also be upgraded. In Bangalore, in each of the 198 wards, Urban health centres will come up, especially in socially-backward areas. Similarly, in Mysore, 63 urban health centres will be set up.In Bagalkot, three  urban health centres will be set-up in areas where people from flood-affected areas are taking refuge.

Hospital upgradation

There are plans to upgrade District Wenlock Hospital to Multi-Specilaity Hospital. In case of availability of land, there are plans to set up a new hospital. A land has been identified in Vamanjoor. However, action plan is yet to be set, he said.

He also informed that all PHC’s will be upgraded, under the NHM so that people can avail the best benefits.

108 service strike

The decision with regard to employees who work in 108 service will be taken up in the meeting, to be held in Bangalore on August 14, he said.

However, 108 service was set-up on the basis of PPP model and the private agency which has partnered with the government, are supposed to look into labour demands.
All employees of the emergency service are hired on contract basis, he said.

Wenlock visit

With regard to the upgradation of Wenlock Hospital to a Multi Specialty Hospital, the NHM team along with Health Minister U T Khader, visited the hospital and conducted inspection.

District Surgeon and Superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi H R told the Minister, that Wenlock Hospital needs a emergency ward, a specialised OT facility, a specialised blood bank, upgraded ICU facility and cancer treatment facility.

The hospital has 750 beds, which needs to be upgraded to 1000, she said.
"Steps will be taken to upgrade Wenlock hospital. There are plans to build a new building, in the hospital premises with the latest facilities. Wenlock also needs a ward for people who are mentally ill. Morgue also needs to be developed, and waiting room should be made for people, who are mostly devastated as they come to collect the mortal remains of their loved ones," he said.

He also inspected the hospital premises, and advised that the elevator should be changed.
