Precious stone resembling Lord Ganesh to be displayed in Udupi

Print UDUPI: A 10.35 carat rare raw diamond that resembles Lord Ganesh will be on display in a complex near Raghavendra Mutt in Udupi between August 15 to 20.
The precious stone resembling lord Ganapathi’s idol of Kanipakam temple in Andhra Pradesh is owned by Mithesh Vora, a diamond trader in Surat. He chanced upon the raw diamond when he purchased 15 pieces of raw diamonds from African mines about a year ago.
The yellowish grey stone looks like Ganesha in sitting position. Eyes, ears and legs are clearly visible on the stone.
Girish Bhat, a diamond trader in Udupi who frequently visits various states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha for business purposes, happens to see the stone during one of his visits to Surat. He requested Vora to keep it for an exhibition in Udupi. ’’The stone looks very attractive and divine. I wanted people in Udupi to see this rare stone."
Vora told TOI that he does not want to polish the raw diamond as it will lose its shape. The International Gemological Institute, Surat has certified the stone. According to experts it is difficult to fix a price for such a rare miniature stone.
