MANGALORE: Karkala in Karkalataluk of Udupi district recorded maximum  rainfall of 139.5mm in Karnataka in the last 24 hours up to 8.30am on Friday. Saundatti hobli in Saundatti taluk of Belgaum district recorded maximum temperature of 32.2°C on August 15 at 2.30pm. Madikeri hobli in Madikeri taluk of Kodagu district recorded lowest minimum temperature of 17.3°C on August 15 at 11.45pm, V S Prakash, director, KSNDMC, stated.

More than 90% relative humidity has been recorded in 28% geographical area in the state. Less than 25% of relative humidity has been recorded in 0% geographical area in the state. Rainfall over Karnataka is considered fairly widespread since 52% of hoblis and GPs recorded rainfall greater than or equal to 2.5mm. Rainfall was widespread in 13 districts; fairly widespread in eight districts; scattered in five; isolated in three districts and negligible in one district.

Very heavy rain was recorded in one district; heavy rain in six districts; rather heavy rain in seven districts; moderate rain in 13 districts; light rain in two districts; and very light rain in one district. South-west monsoon was vigorous in two districts, active in four; normal in 17 and weak in remaining seven districts. Widespread, moderate to very heavy rain was received in Kodagu, Udupi, Bellary, Koppal, Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Ramanagar, Yadgir, Davangere, Chitradurga, Raichur, Uttara Kannada and Gadag districts.

Fairly widespread, moderate to heavy rain was received in Chikkaballapura, Bangalore Rural, Gulbarga, Bidar, Bijapur, Haveri, Bangalore Urban and Tumkur districts. Scattered, moderate to rather heavy rain was received in Hassan, Mandya, Chikmagalur, Bagalkote and Kolar districts. Isolated, light to moderate rain was received in Belgaum, Dharwad and Mysore Districts. Dry weather condition prevailed in remaining parts of the state.

Karnataka for the period August 10 to August 16 recorded deficit rainfall of 35%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 51m in south-interior, north-interior, Malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 33mm. For the 24-hour period ending 8.30am on August 16, four geographical regions received 10.1mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 7.4mm, a 36% surplus departure from normal.
