Serial thefts: People spend sleepless nights

Print Mangalore: Thefts being rampant in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada, people are compelled to spend sleepless nights in order to protect their belongings.
Thieves off late are acquainted with so much courage and technique that they not only attack the owners of a targeted house or asset but also the ones who prevent them from doing so.
A few shocking incidents that took place in the recent past:
An unsuccessful effort of theft was made on the house of Shivappa Salian and family. Salian and his wife had been assaulted on Friday, August 16.
Aware of the absence of family members at home, dacoits have successfully managed to loot lacs of rupees from the residence of Sheenappa Naik of Siddapura, Udupi between August 13 – 16.
A cupboard comprising of valuables had been flicked from the house of Denis D’Souza from Udyavar, Udupi. The incident came to light in August 11.
Campco housing apartments at Padil are being targeted regularly. A shop here had been looted recently. The people residing here are hence facing terror.
People are hereby requested to be a little more cautious. It is unjust to blame the police or consider that it is the duty of the police to nab the thief and thus sideline their one’s responsibility as a citizen. The public must take the help of the police in bringing the smallest of a theft to light.
Piece of advice from the police:
 Public must not entertain unfamiliar electricians/ TV repairers.
 Minimize deal with salesmen
 Learn about a newcomer to the area
 Be cautious about an individual or a group who visit houses/flats for sale/rent.
 Verify the ID card of tenants.
 Keep a copy of ID cards or any related documents of workers at home
 Adapt a central lock to the door
 Keep jewelleries in lockers
 Keep neighbours informed if you are planning a vacation outside
 Ensure that a light keeps burning in your house every night
