Little gods descend on Port City
Over 2,000 kids take part in Krishna Vesha contests in 18 categories at eight venues in Kadri temple premises in Mangalore
As the guests rocked the cradle in which one month old Chirag, decked up as little Krishna was asleep on the stage, thus commenced the children’s festival - Shree Krishna Vesha competition at Kadri Manjunatha temple on Wednesday.
The programme, in which hundreds of little Krishna’s descended at the temple venue with enthusiasm, was inaugurated differently this season.
The one month old baby along with its mother dressed up as Devaki was specially invited for the event, for the child was born after its mother Preethi Shetty vowed before the Kadri temple deity. Preethi Shetty said that she did not have children for eight years of her marriage. She conceived only after she vowed before the Lord in Kadri last year.
“I consider it as my privilege to get my child to the temple on Krishnashtami and celebrate the festival with other children,” an overwhelming Preethi said.
In what was then followed, over 2000 children dressed up as Krishnas participated in the
Krishna Vesha competition organised by Kalkura that was held in 18 categories.
There were Muddu Krishnas, Thunta Krishnas, Sri Krishnas, Bala Krishnas, Kishora Krishnas and many more, who took part in the event based on their age.
Mothers and relatives of the children too did not miss a chance from getting on to the
stage, as they too accompanied their children as Devaki, Yashoda or Radha.
Six year old Anirudh Bhat who participated in Kishora Krishna category, paid no heed when he skipped a few words from the Shloka he recited from Bhagavadgeetha. Despite missing the line, he faced the audience with courage with a smile on his face. Speaking to Deccan Herald, his mother Gowri Bhat, a resident of Sharjah, said that it is for the second time her son was participating in the event.
“We have come on a holiday and my son was adamant that he wishes to participate in the event. So I have brought him here,” she said.
Stemita Lewis along with her son Arush Naman had come to the venue all the way from Saligrama in Udupi, to participate in the event.
“It is for the first time I am taking part in the event under Yashoda Krishna category. And I hope my one year old baby will co-operate with me,” she wished. And to one’s wonder, the child maintained its calmness, by extending a great company to its mother.
If a few little Krishnas were spotted hogging curds and ice creams, a few Krishnas were
busy balancing their acts with the props like snakes and chariots.
Krishna photography and videography category was introduced in the contest this year.
