Mangalore : The Barke police have arrested three persons in connection with a  theft case and seized silver and gold ornaments worth Rs 7.65 lakh, a car, and a two-wheeler.

According to the police, the arrested are Anil Sharma (38), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Vijesh Kumar  alias Viju (25), a resident of Jeepu Kudpady and Richmond alias Richi (27), a resident of Vamanjoor. The police have seized 4.335 kg silver ornaments, 117 gram gold ornaments, gold plated ear rings and Rs 1.15 lakh in cash. 

It was said that Narayan Lal Kumavath and Mangilal J Kumavath from Mumbai were into selling silver and 12 carrot gold ornaments. After selling ornaments in Bijapur, they along with Anil Sharma had come to Mangalore. When they were bound to Anil Sharma’s house in a car from Lal Bagh, the car driver asked Sharma not to smoke inside the car.

 After trio smoked coming out of the car, the driver said that the car had been spoiled and asked the trio to push the car. When they alighted to push the car, the driver drove with the car. As police suspected Sharma, they detained him and he spilled the beans during investigation. A case has been registered.

Teenager’s body found

The body of Rakshith (16), who was washed away in Phalguni river along with four other boys at Paddodi in Bangra Kulur village on Sunday was retrived on Tuesday.

Personnel from fire and emergency department, police and local residents had recovered bodies of Kalandar, Yakshith, Prajwal S and Rajesh on Sunday. Rakshith, is a class X student of Ganapathy High School.

Boat capsizes

A trawl boat capsized at estuary in Hejamady on Tuesday morning and all the fishermen who were on board swam to the shore.

The boat belongs to Ranjith Kotian, a resident of Ullal. Owing to high tide, the boat capsized. Though fishermen from another fishing boat ‘Revathi’ tried to prevent the boat from capsizing, all their efforts went in vain. Ranjith Kotian, Sukumar, Ravi Karkera, Rajesh Suvarna and Ganesh who were on board swam to the shore.

Miffed Bidari may quit SP

 Former City police commissioner Shankar Bidari is likely to resign from the primary membership of Samajwadi Party (SP), after he was replaced by Babagouda Patil as the president of SP.

Bidari is said to be in talks with the Congress, BJP and KJP to further his political career. He said he will take a decision after consulting his supporters.
