Serial thefts in Surathkal, valuables worth Rs.80,000 stolen
Krishnapura : Thieves who broke in two houses situated in Shivagiri locality of Hosabettu decamped with valuables worth Rs 80,000.
Thieves entered into the house belonging to Renuka, Shivagiri from the back door and stole gold chain weighing 2 ½ sovereign and Rs.1,000 which was kept in the cupboard.
They also broke into house of Lalitha through the window, removed a wooden box kept inside the cupboard and stole gold chain weighing 1 ½ sovereign, studs weighing ¾ sovereign, 1 gm finger ring and Rs.6,000 in cash.
It is suspected that the robbers knew beforehand that only women were residing in the house. It is said that a lady in Renuka’s house was awake when the robbery happened however out of fear she didn’t raise any alarm. Based on this revelation the Police suspect that only one person was involved in the robbery. The robbery is said to have occurred between 12 am to 4 a.m.
Rajendra B., SI, Surathkal Police Station and other officials Krishna, Bharat, Rafi Ulla and Punith conducted the investigation.
Accident claims life of a youth
Kaup: A Honda Matrix plying from Ucchila skid on N.H. 66 at Uliyaragoli, Kaup. As a result Shahid, the rider breathed his last. The incident took place on Wednesday, August 9.
Shahid (23) is a son of Ibrahim and Dilshad and a resident of Ucchila, Ermal.
Shahid was employed at Big Bazaar, Udupi.
Shahid who skidded on the highway was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi via ambulance for first aid. He was then shifted to Manipal hospital. He is said to have breathed his last there.
A case has been registered at Kaup police station. Further investigation is on.
Steps to be taken to restore Light house and Clock tower: Lobo
Mangalore: J.R. Lobo, Mangalore south MLA visited the Tagore Park on Wednesday, October 9.
Life foundation, an association dealing with social concerns handed over the memorandum to Lobo demanding the repair of light house hill and the restoration of clock tower.
Speaking to the media persons, Lobo said this park is situated in the heart of the city and it was used by lots of people in the early days. Gandhiji and Rabindranath Tagore had also visited this park in the olden days. The light house in the park was used as a signal for the ships during those times. The PVS groups had earlier carried out the repair works of the park and handed it over to the MCC, but due to the negligence, this has been again gone to the extinct level.
He further said that sirens were put up here every morning, afternoon and night, even that has stopped.
Lobo assured to restore light house and clock tower. He also directed the engineers to take actions in this regard.
U.B. Saleem Ullal, K.K. Vishwas Shetty, Arjun Rai, Nithin Shetty, Krithin, Aroor Vikram Rao, Manju Kenjar, Manoj and other handed over the memorandum.

Capt. Pradeep Mohanty is the new DC for NMPT
Mangalore: Capt. Pradeep Mohanty has been appointed as Deputy Conservator of NMPT by the Ministry of Shipping.
Capt. Mohanty, a Master Mariner (Foreign going) joined NMPT as Harbour Master in 2008 and subsequently was holding the additional charges of Deputy Conservator. He recently assumed the charges of DC at NMPT. He was worked as Pilot in Paradip Port Trust for 6 years
Bus rolls down the bridge, 20 passengers injured
Bantwal: A speeding bus fell off from the Kudkodi Bridge at Siddakatte on Wednesday morning, October 9. Nearly 20 people are injured in the accident.
The bus was plying from B.C Road to Moodbidri and went out of control. As the bus overturned near the bridge, it hit an electric pole and fell into the stream.
The injured were immediately rushed to private hospitals.
Cattle trafficking truck falls down, police arrest five
Mangalore: A lorry fell down at Kudupu temple, Mangalore on Wednesday morning, October 9 while allegedly trafficking 21 cattles.
Sources claim that the truck was plying from Mangalore to Belgaum. Near Kudupu it hit a bike and fled from the spot. When the locals chased the lorry it fell by the side of the road near Kudupu Katte.
The locals immediately caught hold of five members and trashed them. Meanwhile the police arrived to the spot and nabbed all the five. The injured are under treatment in a hospital in Mangalore.
Police have seized the cattle’s and a case has been filed against five.
Police arrest three for looting jewellery merchants
Mangalore: Three men are arrested by Barke police on Tuesday, October 8 for looting gold jewellery from two merchants from Mumbai.
The arrested are identified as Anil Kumar Sharma (38) from Uttar Pradesh, Vijesh Kumar alias Vijju (25) from Jeppu and Richmond alias Richie (27) from Vamanjoor.
Police have also seized valuables worth Rs 7.65 lac from them like 4.335 kg silver ornaments, 117 gram gold ornaments, gold plated ear rings and cash of Rs 1.15 lakh. A Swift car and a Pulsar bike used by thieves were also seized by the police.
Sources claim that Narayan Lal Kumavath and Mangilal J Kumavath from Mumbai had been to Mangalore to sell silver and 12 carat gold ornaments along with Anil Sharma.
While traveling in the car with two other companions Anil Sharma, the driver insisted the people to push the car as it was spoiled. When the trio went out to push the car, the driver drove with the car.
After registering a complaint at North Police station, the cops arrested Sharma and during the interrogation he reveled the truth.
A case has been registered.
