MANGALORE: The Karnataka south unit of Hindu Jagarana Vedike has urged the state government to recommend a CBI probe into the rape and murder of Nirmala (name changed), II PU student of SDM College, Ujire. She was murdered on October 9, 2012.

Sathyajit Suratkal, convener of the vedike, said, "It is not possible for both Dakshina Kannada district police or CID to crack this case as they are under pressure and influence from various quarters. Both the agencies are trying to close the case. The actual perpetrators of the crime have not been arrested and they should be punished."
He added that even after the case was handed over to CID there is no progress, he added. "The case should be probed under the supervision of the court. The influential persons involved in the case may put pressure on CBI too. No culprit should escape in this case," he said.
He also condemned those who are trying to drag the name of dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, D Veerendra Heggade, into the case.

"Some elements are trying to malign the holiness of Dharmasthala," he said. Leaders of the vedike Vasudev Gowda, Raviraj, BC Road and Kishore Kumar were present.

Meanwhile Vishwa Karma community has also condemned the allegations against Veerendra Heggade.

CPM stages protests in Mysore, Mandya

Mysore: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday asked the Congress government to hand over the investigation into the Ujire rape and murder case to CBI.

The party said that it has no faith in CID investigation.

CPM members who staged a Dharna in Mysore cited the murder case of Padmalatha in 1987. The CID probe into the case had failed to nail the culprits. The same fate awaits Ujire case also, they said. "CPM is not against any religion and we are not targeting any religious place. We are seeking justice for the victim and her family," CPM district secretary K Basavaraju said.
Members of CPM also staged a protest in Mandya. The protesters, who held a protest march from Sir M Visvesvarayya statue and assembled in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, accused the state government of trying to hush up the case to protect the perpetrators who are influential. Around 462 unnatural deaths, most of them involving women, have been reported in and around Dharmasthala. Nirmala rape and murder case should be a reminder for the government to understand the gravity of the situation," said CPM leader Puttamadu.

CFI to lay siege to DC office The Campus Front of India, Dakshina Kannada district unit, will lay siege to the office of deputy commissioner here on October 24 seeking a CBI probe into the case.
