The existing road has been planned for 12,500 PCU, says official

The work on a parallel bridge across river Netravathi on National Highway 66, is likely to be completed by March, an official from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has said. 

Speaking at a tri -monthly KDP review meeting held under the presidentship of District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai here on Wednesday, he said that the length of the bridge is 800 metre and the width is 12 metre. About 90 per cent of the work has been completed. 

The official said “once the work of the bridge is complete, then two way traffic will be allowed on the new bridge, to facilitate the maintenance work of the old bridge. The existing road has been designed to cater to 12,500 PCU (passenger car unit). However, there are 35,000 PCU on the highway. The increase in density of the traffic has been causing traffic jam on the highway.” 

The official also said that two underpass will come up at Baikampady, which will reduce the traffic congestion. The existing bridge will be reconstructed after the completion of an underpass. 

The official from KRDCL said that the work on Mani-Mysore road will be completed by May, 2014. 

Title deeds

To a query on issue of title deeds for the residents of Thota Bengre/ Kasaba Bengre, Additional DC Dayanand said that the port department had passed a notification to issue 1,868 title deeds in 1991, subject to the condition that it should be given after collecting market value of the land from the house owners.

Unfortunately, the population in the region has increased and there is a need to carry out a survey of the region. To which, the Minister said “the market value of the land would be too huge for them to pay. Hence, let us take a decision on collecting fee from the owners and send it to the government for approval shortly.” 

The Minister also directed the authorities to earmark atleast two acre government land in each gram panchayat to be distributed among poor houseless and siteless. The Additional DC said that 330 acre land has already been reserved. The work on disributing sites for siteless will be accelerated. 

FMD in DK

Department of Animal Husbandry Deputy Director Dr Halagappa said that foot and mouth disease in cattle were reported in six villages in Dakshina Kannada district.

The department has taken up ring vaccination programme, wherein animals in two to three kilometre radius of the village were subjected to vaccination against the disease, to check the outbreak of the disease in the district. Three cattle have succumbed to the disease in the district. The committee has already been formed to disburse compensation, he added. 

Kulai jetty

When Minister for Youth Services and Sports raised the issue of Kulai jetty, the official said that the estimated cost of the jetty will be prepared in a week, to be submitted to the government.  As many as 14 houses have been constructed on the land identified for the jetty. The houses need to be vacated only after providing compensation. To which, DC N Prakash promised to look into the matter. 

Thumbe vented dam

The official from Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board said that survey on land that will be submerged following completion of second vented dam has been completed. 

A meeting convened by the DC has decided to seek Rs 100 crore from the government, to be distributed as compensation among the land owners.
