Print MANGALORE: Officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport intercepted two passengers - Abdul Nizar Bannoor and Abdul Jaleel Thalangara Ismail, both from Kasargod and recovered 920 grams of gold from their possession. The passengers arrived by Air India Express Flight IX 814 at 7.30am on November 19.
When the Customs officials checked their bag, they found gold wire painted with silver paint weighing around 920 grams valued at Rs 28 lakh concealed in the beedings of their suitcase bags. V Shreenivas Phani, assistant commissioner of customs stated that further investigation in these cases in under progress.

MANGALORE: A forum of Mangalore International Airport (MIA) users has demanded that traffic arrangements at the departure and arrival gates of the terminal building be streamlined.
Mangalore Citizen’s Association president Stany Menezes said MIA authorities should make arrangements for the smooth flow of traffic at the terminal building. "Citizens are happy with the developments at the airport like new runway, new terminal building, introduction of international flights and cargo terminal. The new terminal has a ramp for vehicles to drop and pick passengers and this needs to be streamlined," he said and suggested that only five pre-paid taxis should be allowed on the ramp at any given point of time.
"Vehicles can be parked in marked areas 25 meters away from the arrival gate. VIP vehicles can be allowed to park 25 meters away from the gates. All government vehicles have to be parked 50 meters away from the gates. Vehicles should be parked only on one side of the ramp. Vehicles should be allowed to enter from the eastern side of the ramp and exit via the western side," suggested Menezes.
