Five people, including a couple, ended their lives in the City since Monday night.

A couple ended their lives by lying on railway track near Carmelram Railway Station on Monday.

The identity of the couple is yet to be established.

According to S N Siddaramappa, Superintendent of Police (Railway), the man was about 35 and the woman, about 25.

He said they probably came on a moped and ended lives by lying on the rail track.

A senior police official who visited the spot said the Railway police have been trying to establish the identity of the two on the basis of the moped (KA 51 EG 8762) that was found nearby.

The Byappanahalli Railway police have registered a case.

Vendor ends life

A tender coconut vendor committed suicide by hanging himself at his house on 9th Cross in Rajagopalnagar.

According to police on Tuesday noon, Ranganath left in the care of his wife Jayamma his shop, came home and hung himself. No suicide note has been found and the reason for his extreme step is yet to be ascertained.

Suicide over violence

A 35-year-old homemaker ended her life in her Chowdeshwarinagar residence. According to police, Bharati, employed at an apparel shop, was married to Manjunath, a labourer.Nataraj, the brother of Bharati, has lodged a complaint accusing Manjunath of domestic violence. Rajagoplanagar police have registered a case.

Clerk hangs himself

A first division clerk at the City Police Commissioner’s office hanged himself to death at the police quarters in HAL in the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Ravikumar (38). The incident came to light after his wife, Roopa, saw him hanging from the ceiling fan. She informed the local police who retrieved the body.

The body was handed over to the family after the post mortem at the Bowring Hospital. Roopa, in her statement to the police, has stated that Ravikumar was caught in a debt trap and had turned alcoholic. HAL police have registered a case. Disabled woman attempts suicide

A physically challenged woman attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze, in Mayo Hall Court on Tuesday.

According to Ashok Nagar police, Hemalatha, 35, a resident of Austin Town, was a garments factory worker. She had deposited her savings with a bank in Victoria Layout.

She used to take her brother’s wife, Sumalatha, to the bank always.

Sumalatha and her husband Somashekhar managed to withdraw Rs one lakh from Hemalatha’s bank account by forging signatures. Hemalatha had lodged a complaint against her brother and his wife, with Viveknagar police in 2008.  A case was booked and Hemalatha was making trips to the court for the past five years. According to police, dejected over the prolonging proceedings, Hemalatha attempted suicide.

She doused herself with kerosene in front of the magistrate in court XI and tried to set herself ablaze.

However, the police and the people present in the court thwarted her attempt. A case has been booked against Hemalatha for attempting suicide.
