MANGALORE: Children pay tributes to their parents in myriad ways. Opting for an artistic medium to honour his father is city-based documentary and advertisement film maker Kudpi Rajanikanth Shenoy.

 Shenoy has come out with an audio CD, Bhangrachi Goddadi, based on a comedy play of the same name written by his father Kudpi Vasudeva Shenoy. Assisting him in this task is Global Konkani Friends based in India, USA and Singapore.

 These friends - Dr Ganesh Shenoy Panchmal, Rajanikanth, Muralidhar Kamath, S Mukund Kamath, Dr Lata Mallya Kini, Sujir Manoj Nayak, Ashwin Prabhu M, and B Govindaraj Prabhu, Madhukantha Kamath that includes Rajanikath - have lent their voices to the audio CD.

 His years of experience in audio track mixing came in handy for Rajanikanth to edit their distinct voices and structure it in the form a play that is two hours and 45 minutes long.

 The Konkani Friends in 2012 had come out with a similar CD, Dolyan Khelu, based on Vasudeva Shenoy’s masterpiece of the same name.

 Agog with expectations of the impending release of Bhangrachi Goddadi on Saturday at Canara High School, Dongerkery, here, Rajanikanth told TOI, "I wanted to perpetuate the memory of my father, a writer in his own terms, who passed away while I was still in the school. I could not do much for him then."

 On Konkani Friends going global for Bhangrachi Goddadi, Rajanikanth, said, "This would not have been possible but for Lata Mallya, settled in USA, and Madhukantha in Singapore, who recorded their voices and mailed it to me."

 His local friends helped Rajanikanth digitally stitch together 14 scenes with non-stop clean humour which is suited for all age groups.

 Special sound effects and soothing background music liven up the scenes. The drama is targeted to entertain mainly homemakers and senior citizens. Recorded in MP3 audio format, this CD can be played on any modern CD, DVD or car audio player.

 The play will also be uploaded on Radio Idli and other internet radios. Plans are also afoot to take this play from the CD to the stage involving local actors at a later date, Rajanikanth said.

 About the play, Rajanikanth said, "It is a tale about a hermit who keeps his life’s savings in the form of gold coins in a goddadi, a quilt made of old worn out sarees. Since the hermit has no one whom he can trust for the safekeeping of his wealth, the hermit sews up the gold coins in the quilt. The climax of the drama is how those who know about the hermit’s golden quilt try to leave him poorer without the quilt and if they succeed or not."
