Udupi: Oscar Fernandes, union surface transport and labour minister visited Kaniyoor Math and had a talk with Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Sripada on Saturday, January 11.

Minister also discussed the preparation of Paryaya, which will be held on January 18 at Kaniyoor Math in Udupi.

Minister Oscar was honoured by Sripada on the occasion. 

Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, Udupi and Jayaprakash Hegde, MP were present.

‘Jai Ho’- Kollur temple staff helps nab the duper

Kundapur: Kollur Shree Mookambika Temple authorities suspended Narayana Puranik on Tuesday January 7 for allegedly stealing ten silver nuggets worth Rs 3.5 lacs.
 
As per the sources the silver nuggets were offered by a devotee to the deity Shree Mookambika through ’tula bhara’. During the process the accused pocketed few silver nuggets which fell down while weighing the scale. 
 
One of the staff of the temple noticed this act and informed the management.
 
Krishnaprasad Adyanthaya, president of management committee and L S Maruti, executive official, went through the images captured by the CCTV and interogated Narayana, who then returned the ten silver nuggets to the temple. He was suspended by the temple authorities.

Beltangady Day Light Robbery : Robbers decamp with gold and silver worth Rs.3 lac

Beltangady : Robbers who struck in broad daylight at house belonging to Dayanand Nayak, proprietor of S.N.Computers and decamped with gold (14 sovreign)  and silver items worth Rs.3 lac on Thursday, Januarys 9.
Dayanand Nayak couple had left their house located near Speedfarm Road at 10.30 a.m when the robbery took place. When they returned home at 1.30 p.m they discovered that main door of their house was half open and the key was placed in front of the house. When they entered inside the cupboard’s locker was separated and kept.

As Nayak’s house is located in a widely populated area and it was quite surprising to know that robbers had accomplished their task without anybody’s notice.
The robbers are said to have gained entry into the house through the kitchen.

Gurkha’s involvement suspected
Police are suspecting the involvement of the Gurkha as it is learnt that the Gurkha who had come the previpus day asking for wages had been sent empty-handed.Few days ago when a Gurkha in a house located at Laila in Raghavendranagar was sent empty-handed the house was robbed the next day. A theft attempt had occurred in Laila Prasanna College and the Police had arrested two Gurkhas. 
Lingappa Poojary, circle inspector, Beltangady Police Station, Prakash Devadiga, SI and dog squad arrived at the spot to conduct investigation and a case has been registered.
