MANGALORE: The management of  College, which had suspended the girl involved in the Facebook row, has mellowed down its stand and has decided not to jeopardize the future of the girl, provided she tenders an apology.

 However, the girl has not come to the college after the incident was reported. College principal said, "We will withdraw the suspension as soon as she tenders an apology stating that she will not indulge in any activity that will bring disrepute to her and the college, and also she will concentrate on her studies. We are not here to victimize her in any way." He said the management decided to suspend the student as her act had a bearing on the institution too.

 If she has committed a blunder she has to pay the price for it from the college’s point of view. Our action will send a message to students that what they do outside the college has an impact on the college and its name will be dragged and sullied. If any action is not taken by the management, people will think that something is wrong with the management,’’ he added.

 We have clearly mentioned in our college calendar that a student of the college has to conduct within and outside the campus maintaining the dignity and decorum of the institution. That made me to take action,’’ Rao added. The college principal came to know about the incident on January 9. He said his colleagues had shown him the uploaded pictures and he felt that the girl was not forced into it. Had it been a case of kidnap or photoshop morphing work then I could understand.

 She has admitted in her confession that it was not by force. Only when it was uploaded on the social website, she felt bad and not when she committed the act. This gives a wrong signal to the students (if no action is taken),’’ he said. The college principal said that he would allow her to take the internal examinations starting January 27, but was apprehensive about peer pressure. I have talked to students not to make it an issue of it. I cannot sense how she, her friends and peers behave with her. That’s my apprehension.

 It will have a psychological bearing on the girl, who had lost her father at a very young age,’’ sympathised the principal. She has not come till now. May be her family wants to take time before she returns to college,’’ he surmised.
