Miscreants hack murder accused in broad daylight

Print MANGALORE: A group of car borne miscreants - numbering around four - hacked to death a person accused in a murder case - in front of National Institute of Technology - Karnataka at Surathkal on Tuesday. The victim - Prakash - accused in Shivaraj murder case was returning to Udupi after attending a court summons when the miscreants - who came in a Maruti 800 car waylaid the bus in which he was travelling, pulled him out and assaulted him.
Commissioner of Police R Hithendra said Mangalore city police has taken the incident seriously and all efforts are being made to nab the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K V Jagadeesh said as per preliminary information, the assailants numbering around four trailed the bus in which Prakash was travelling before executing their plan. The attack was so gruesome that Prakash succumbed to injuries on the spot.
Prakash who was out on bail in the above case had relocated to Mahaboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh due to perceived threat to his life here. Jagadeesh surmised that the assailants must have clear information that Prakash would be in the city to attend the court and planned the crime accordingly. "We have few leads and are working on it," Jagadeesh said, adding efforts are on to trace the assailants and the car. A case has been registered in Surathkal Police Station.
