’Unauthorised homestays should register within four weeks’

In the backdrop of schoolchildren taking ill after consuming mid-day meals at schools in the district, Deputy Commissioner Aurag Tiwari has directed the officials from education department to suspend headmasters of Ballamavati and Besur  schools.

Chairing a meeting on Saturday, he collected details on poising of mid-day meal from the officials. The DC directed the ZP CEO to initiate action against head teachers immediately.

DDPI Kantharaju said “as Ballamavati Netaji School is an aided school, we need to send a report to the Commissioner of Department of Public Instructions to suspend the head teacher. We can act only after the directions from the Commissioner.”

The DC directed to issue a circular to suspend head master of Besur Government High School. The head teachers should consume the food served under mid-day meals first before serving to children. The BEOs, Akshara Dasoha taluk level officials and cluster level officials should pay surprise visit to the schools.

The health officials should visit kitchen, and look at the quality of sources of drinking water facilities in schools.

Register homestays

The DC called upon people providing home stay accommodation without valid permission to comply with registration procedure within four weeks or face action.

Chairing a tourism related meeting, he said permission should be obtained for tourism department. The process of registration should complete within the time frame. If they failed to comply, then as per the directions of the government,  a sub committee will be constituted to check homestays. Homestay Association Madikeri taluk committee member B G Ananthashayana said that houses are taken for rent and then used for home stay accommodation. There is a need to check such activities.

Tourism department Assistant Director V Panish said that there are 400 unauthorised homestays in the district. “We had given an ultimatum four times in the past. Inspite of it, they have failed to register with the tourism department.”

He appealed to the DC to issue permits for starting KSRTC bus services to different tourist spots in the district.

“We have Rs 139 lakh for taking up development work in Rajaseat. A total of 18 works have been taken up and 13 works have been completed.”
