MANGALORE: The BJP leadership on Saturday targeted the state government for what it stated was a blatant attempt to derail its poll preparedness by initiating CrPC proceedings against party workers and activists of right wing organizations.

 MLC K Monappa Bhandary said police authorities in DK at the behest of the government have classified nearly 300 Hindu activists and social workers as anti-social elements to baulk the BJP’s campaign efforts.

 Bhandary said Subash Padil, Hindu Jagaran Vedike activist and the main accused in the Home Stay attack on party revellers incident of July 2012, and Bajrang Dal activists - Sharan Pumpwell and Praveen Pumpwell- are those who have fallen foul of the men in khaki. These are the people who have worked for protection of cows, Bhandary said, adding that by labelling them as anti-social elements, the Congress is indulging in base politics.

 All those with any relation or affiliation to the BJP are being branded rowdy sheeters and police are treating ’criminal elements’ from the Congress with kid-gloves, Bhandary alleged, adding that this strategy on part of the Congress to misuse official machinery to its advantage will backfire and the voters will give it an apt reply with their ballot on May 16. The party will continue to oppose any attempt to victimize its workers this way, he said.

 The party also kick-started its intensive campaign for its Lok Sabha candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency Nalin Kumar Kateel at Sanghanikethan, the local headquarters of RSS by setting up an election office there. Strategies were chalked out at the BJP election managing committee workshop that Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar inaugurated. Sunil said 18 divisions have been set up in the district, and each will have an election office.

 Stressing the need to work unitedly, Sunil said this is the only way that the party can secure around 300 seats and ensure the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is elevated to the post and delivers what he has promised. The rank and file of the party too have to seek votes for Nalin on his individual abilities and achievements in his first term as a MP and dispel notions that the Congress is spreading that he is riding on the ’Modi wave’.
