MANGALORE: Beware, if you have shared any Facebook or other mobile app contents that has malicious intention of targeting political party candidates. The Dakshina Kannada Congress committee has lodged a complaint with city police against individuals who shared pictures of party candidate B Janardhan Poojary and other leaders showing them in a bad light.

 After BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s ’chai pe charcha’ became popular, a section of netizens and mobile users started sharing morphed picture of Janardhan Poojary selling ’golibaje’ (a local dish) to ministers M Veerappa Moily, B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader and MLA Mohiuddin Bawa. The picture also carries a caption ridiculing Poojary - ’Jannana hosa show: Golibaje pe charcha’ (the new show of Janardhan Poojary - golibaje pe charcha).

 Even as the derogatory picture has gone viral, the District Congress Committee has approached city police chief R Hithendra and also lodged a complaint with Mangalore East Police in this regard. Congress members have also submitted several such pictures shared on social networking sites and mobile phones that could damage the images of Poojary, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others to police.

 Congress district spokespersons Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Ivan D’Souza and Shahul Hameed said that sharing such derogatory pictures through Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter is an offence under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act 2000.

 "We have filed a complaint and urged the city police commissioner to consider the issue seriously. We have urged police to conduct an inquiry by an official above the rank of the assistant commissioner of police and act against those who are behind circulation of malicious pictures," Ivan said, adding that those are found guilty are liable for 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh.
