MANGALORE: Karavali Jeevanadhi Nethravathi Ulisi Samiti will embark on a mission to get all urban, local and panchayati raj bodies in Dakshina Kannada adopt resolution opposing the Yettinahole project. The samiti will dash off letters to these bodies requesting them to do so at their respective council, general body meetings, and the consolidated copies of resolution sent to the state government to get it to reconsider the stand on the project.

 In addition, the samiti has also requested people residing in the 203 gram panchayats, five taluk panchayat areas, and the zilla panchayat as well the other town panchayats, town and city municipal councils and the city corporation to give information on the water shortage problems they face. This will be handy to buttress claims of people here on acute water scarcity the district faces during summer, said samiti president K Vijayakumar Shetty.

 Referring to the public interest litigation that the samiti has filed before the high court, former Surathkal MLA Vijayakumar said the PIL (10961/14) has been admitted and will come up for hearing shortly. Asserting that the samiti has not received any formal feelers from the state government for talks which chief minister Siddaramaiah had hinted at, Vijayakumar said the samiti is not considering boycotting the Lok Sabha polls as part of its protest.

 Noting that the PIL is part of means the samiti has chosen to oppose the project, M G Hegde, convener, said the organization will continue to involve students to ensure that youth support for the movement continues. The samiti has also informed parties to ensure that their various office bearers exercise caution while giving statements on the issue and anything that goes against the interest of the district will bring about an electoral debacle.

 Legal adviser Dinakar Shetty said the samiti will stand by its decision to gherao and show black flags to former CM D V Sadananda Gowda and Union minister for petroleum and natural gas M Veerappa Moily for their role in promoting the project as and when they visit Dakshina Kannada district. The samiti has held seminars on the topic in various colleges and will hold them in other colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, he added.
