Mangalore: A missing case of a college going boy has been reported in Suratkal Police Station on Monday, March 24.
 
As per the complaint registered, Punit (17), resident of Kulai went missing from Sunday, March 23, afternoon from his residence.
 
It is also mentioned in the complaint that Punit had an affair with a girl from Koorikatta, Baikampady, who apparently was his classmate.

Suicide suspected:
 
Punit, a first year PU student, studying in a private college in Mangalore was allegedly in love with one of his classmates and also that he had reportedly not done well in one of the subjects in his final exams.

Fearing that he would not qualify for II PUC and that his love will not get an approval from their respective families, Punit along with his alleged girlfriend reportedly went to the extreme end of the breakwater area of Panambur beach on Monday, March 24 at around 12.30am and jumped into the water in order to commit suicide. The girl’s attempt to commit suicide went in vain and she returned home at around 3.00am. Punit went missing.
 
During investigation, the girl is said to have accepted their affair and that they tried to commit suicide owing to insecurities about their future. The girl reportedly stated that she was in the water for two hours, but as she could not die, she returned home.

Suratkal police with the help of Panambur police have been searching for Punit. he fact whether Punit is alive or dead is not yet known.
 
The investigation is being held under the leadership of M.A. Nataraj, Suratkal police inspector.

Cricket betting: Police arrest six

Kasargod: Police under the leadership of C.P. Jacob, S.I., arrested six on charges of betting during a cricket match.
 
Mahesh (29) of Kotekani, Murugan (32) of Hosadurga, Nishad (24) of B.C. Road, Muralidharan (32) of Koodlu Ramdas Nagar, Muneer (38) of Chemnad Kombanadka and Ajeesh (26) of Uliya were arrested from a lodge near the Old Bus Stand.
 
Cash amounting to Rs 9,900 has also been recovered from them.
 
The raid was conducted based on information from reliable sources that a few were involved in betting during the T20 World Cup match between India and West Indies.

Accident claims life of two

Mangalore: An accident between a tanker and a scooter at Ombattukere, Someshwar claimed the life of twp people on Sunday, March 23 night.
 
The deceased are identified as Dinesh (30), resident of Ullal Mastikatte and Vitesh alias Munna (24) resident of Kolya. 
 
Dinesh was working as a conductor in Karavali Travels bus and Vitesh was a conductor in Surabhi Travels bus.
 
During the time of the accident Dinesh was riding the Honda Activa scooter while Vitesh was the pillion rider.
 
Ullal police have filed a case.
