MANGALORE: The executive committee member of Karnataka BJP, Sreekar Prabhu, has been expelled from the party for a period of six years for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

 BJP state president Prahlad Joshi in a letter to Prabhu stated that he had been expelled based on the recommendations of the district unit of BJP for anti-party activities with immediate effect.

 In another move, the party has also removed noted advocate Padma Prasad Hegde from his post as member of BJP’s national security cell for the same reason. He too has been relieved from all responsibilities of the party with immediate effect, according to Raghunath Rao Malkapure, state general secretary.

 BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak said the anti-party activities by the two persons had come to the notice of state party members and they had taken this decision. He said a series of incidents during the run up to the polls which were deemed anti-party by both the persons led to this decision, he added.

 On Monday, sitting MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had lodged a complaint against PP Hegde of trying to tarnish his image by forging mobile call records. In a complaint lodged at Mangalore North Police Station, Kateel alleged that lawyer PP Hegde and independent candidate Sudatta Jain illegally obtained his call records and portrayed on social media that he had sexually exploited a woman. The complaint was been registered under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 465(forgery), 469 (forgery to tarnish reputation), 471 forgery of electronic records), and under different provisions of IT act.

 Party sources said Prabhu was also one of the persons behind this incident. Prabhu said that he was unaware of his expulsion since he had not got any notice from the party. PP Hegde said that first of he was not member of any party, including BJP. "I have not received any communication regarding e being relieved of my responsibility and it has to done by national president Rajnath Singh," he said.

 He said if he was actually relieved of the responsibilities, he would be glad since he will be able to devote more time to is profession and regretted that he supported an incompetent candidate like Kateel because of Narendra Modi. "Till now I could not speak of many things. I will come out with facts in due time," he asserted.
