Infosys slaps defamation notice on three newspapers

Claims damages worth Rs. 2,000 crore
IT major Infosys served three leading newspapers with defamation notices on Monday.
In the notices served — copies of which have been accessed by The Hindu — collectively to the media organisations and journalists, Infosys claimed damages of Rs. 2,000 crore for “loss and reputation and goodwill due to circulation of defamatory articles.”
The three newspapers — The Economic Times, The Times of India and The Financial Express — have been given 24 hours to remove such articles from their websites and other media, and issue an unconditional apology. In response to The Hindu’s queries, an Infosys spokesperson said: “The notice speaks for itself and we will act on it.”
Please note that under 66A of the IT Act, sending offensive or menacing messages through electronic communication service and sending false messages to cheat, mislead or deceive people or to cause annoyance to them is punishable.
