Belthangady: Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade has filed a criminal case against social activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody at Belthangady police station.

Thimarody who spearheaded the fight Sowjanya, the II PU student from Ujire who was raped and murdered on October 9, 2012, is booked under section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) by Belthangady police.

In a complaint to District Superintendent of Police, Dr Heggade stated: "I and my family have been victimised by Thimarody considering various criminal incidents occurred in and around Dharmasthal. He has been spreading baseless allegations and derogatory remarks in various television interviews from past one year. Besides, he has also been accusing various legal department, governmental organisations, police organisations and higher departments of protecting and helping me in various ways."

"On July 24, Thimarody has given a false statement against me on a television interview. I had later informed the circle inspector to arrest him. He has been accusing me and my family of being part of a murder that took place in Ujire. Our family has never used the power of police department to execute any work in Sri Kshetra Dharamasthal,” said Dr Heggade adding that he requests the police department to conduct a detailed investigation and bring out the truth before the public.

“Strict action must be taken against Thimarody and others who have been planning plots to spoil the reputation of our family as well as Sri Kshetra Dharamasthal. Through transparent investigation the police department can upheld the respect on constitution," stated the report.

Praja Prabhutva Vedike, the forum led by Thimarody, has held several protests attracting thousands seeking justice for Sowjanya, forcing the state government to order a CBI inquiry.
