Broken-hearted teen girls commit suicide on footpath
Two teenage girls, studying Bachelor of Business Management (BBM), reportedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide on a footpath on Mosque Road in Frazer Town on Saturday. They were reportedly dejected that the boys they loved did not reciprocate.
According to the police, the 18-year-old victims have been identified as Shazia Begum, a resident KG Halli, and Rakhia Begum, from DJ Halli. The two were pursuing BBM I at a private college in Nagawara.
The police said that around noon, the two girls were found unconscious on a pavement on Mosque Road. Passersby, who noticed the them, called the police. The police then took the unconscious girls to a private hospital. The doctors declared Shazia, daughter of a vegetable vendor, brought dead and asked the police to shift Rakhia, daughter of a beef stall owner, to a bigger hospital as her condition was critical.
The police rushed Rakhia to another hospital and she was hospitalised. But she did not respond to the treatment and died around 11 pm, added police.
Meanwhile, the police established their identities and informed their parents. Preliminary investigations revealed that the girls were studying together and were each in love with two boys for the past few months.
They were dejected and upset when their respective boys did not reciprocate. So, they decided to end their lives and together consumed pesticide, a senior police officer said.
“We are investigating how they procured the pesticide. We are yet to talk to the girls’ classmates to get a clear picture of the motive for their suicide,” he said. A case has been registered at the Pulikeshinagar police station.
