Hiriyadka SI faces probe for dereliction of duty
Udupi : A departmental probe has been ordered against Hiriyadka Sub Inspector Rafiq for alleged dereliction of duty.
Rafiq, who was earlier serving as the ASI at Puttur City police station had allegations against him on similar lines. After being transferred with promotion to Hiriyadka, it is being alleged that gambling cases are on the rise in his jurisdiction.
As a norm, police are supposed to videograph spot-reports during raids. However, it is said that Rafiq had constantly violated this rule.
A departmental probe will be initiated against Rafiq. Henceforth, police personnel are strictly bound to follow the guidelines issued by the police department and the High Court during spot-reporting in Udupi district, the SP has said.

Theerthahalli case: VHP demands Rs 10 lac compensation
Kundapur : Vishwa Hindu Parishat has demanded the government to sanction Rs 10 lac as compensation to the family of Nandita, the minor girl from Theerthahalli who died under mysterious circumstances recently.
Nandita, a Class VIII student died at a private hospital in Manipal on Friday due to health complications. Earlier it was believed that the girl was abducted and poisoned by perpetrators, due to which she died. While a probe is underway to ascertain the reason behind her death, various organizations have been demanding compensation for family of the girl.
Demanding compensation, District VHP President Suprasad Shetty said that when the government could grant Rs 10 lac compensation to cattle trafficker Kabir, it obviously had to sanction the same amount to Nandita’s family as well. He was addressing the gathering in a protest meet called near Koteshwara Fish Market condemning the sexual assault and murder of Nandita.
Speaking further he said that the Home Minister has still not visited Theerthahalli.
“The state government has been maintaining silence despite a sharp increase in the number of crimes against women. Police too, have been acting like puppets in the hands of the government. Both the police department and the government have been biased ever since this government came to power,” he alleged.
Rashtriya Swayam Seva Sangha’s Subrahmanya Holla, Bajrand Dal activists Girish Kundapur and Raveendra Koteshwar were present among others.
