Mangaluru : The project of setting up World Class Railway station at Mangaluru Junction may take some more waiting as the railways is yet to acquire required area of land.

As of now, the Railways has only 63 acres of land available at hand as against the required 100 acres to transform the Mangaluru Junction into world class station.
 
The project is proposed to be undertaken in PPP model and the survey for the work has been started, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel addressing the grievances meet at Circuit Houseon Saturday, Novembr 8.

The remaining 37 acres of land required for the project will have to be made available by the MCC, he said.

However, when it came to the long pending demand for a separate Mangaluru Division, the MP said that he cannot promise of raising the issue in the immediate Budgetary Session, but he would promise that the demand would be fulfilled in next five years for sure.
 
RUB

The much awaited demand of construction of railway under bridge (RUB) at Jeppu Kudpady is inching towards completion. The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has already paid Rs 3.61 crore to the railway department. Once the tender is called for construction of the RUB, the same will be constructed by June, 2016, said the MP.

Proposal has been for construction of 17 RUBs and all the proposals will be accepted, MP said. Elucidating about the other projects MP said the foundation stone for Jeppu to Padil RUB has already been laid and will be completed on March 15.

The ROB at Haleyangadi will be constructed jointly by State Government and Konkan Railway at Rs 4.56 crore, the MP said. If the State Government will sanction money soon then the construction of ROBs near APMC, Vivekananda college at Puttur can be taken up soon, he informed.

“A cost of Rs 80 lacs will be incurred for setting up of ROB at Adyar, now the onus is on the State Government to sanction money. If need arises then I will sanction Rs 10 lac from the MP fund,” Kateel said.

Construction of railway bridges underway

The construction of railway bridges jointly by Railway Department and National Highway Authority of India at Baikampady, Bantwal Cross Road (BC Road) is already underway and will be completed in February and January respectively, the MP said.

With regards to the problem being faced by people due to the railway gate at Baikampady, the MP said the railway department officials had been directed to conduct a survey and also make arrangements to remove the gate.

Alternate arrangements will be made by the railway department and the MCC to enable the commuters to move freely nearly Maravoor-Kudupu railway crossing, he said.
 
Feasible solution for RoRo problem

As far as the traffic congestion caused due to the Roll On Roll Off (RORO) trains, the MP, said the main problem is arising due to the Commercial Tax Officials who are collecting the tax on the spot. Request will be made to them to make alternate arrangements for collection of taxes.
Additional railway police will also be deployed to control the unruly lorry drivers, he added.
 
Construction of railway station

The Adarsh Nagar Railway Station at Puttur will be completed by December. A double track will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 Crore. Railway platform will be completed by February. While Subrhamanya railway station will be constructed at Rs 67 lacs, MP said.
A proposal for extension of  Bantwal to Neralakatte has been sent, he added.

The road at Saripalla has been taken up by the railway department and MCC jointly, MP said.

Goonda act invoked against three persons

Bantwal : Goonda Act has been invoked against  three persons by Bantwal rural police on Saturday, November 8.

The accused are Maripalla residents Haneef alias Mada Haneef (30), son of Abdul Khader, Afiz (25) alias Appi, son of Hasanabba and M Imraan (23), son of Abubaker

All the three are facing charges of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, destruction of property and assault in various police stations in city.

Haneef is wanted in ten cases (8-Bantwal City Police Station, 1-Bajpe Police Station and 1-Bajpe Police Station). While five cases (4-Bantwal Rural Police Station, 1-Bantwal City Police Station) has been lodged against Afiz and ten cases (8-Bantwal Rural Police Station, 1-Bantwal City Police Station)   

The three were arrested on August 20 in connection with the murder of rickshaw driver Mohammad Rifaayi (28) at  Netarkere, Bantwal on June 21. Presently they are lodged in Hiriyadka jail.
